There used to be a number of shoe manufacturing towns in Germany, supporting hundreds of factories. Today, however, MEINDL is now one of the few footwear manufacturers actually producing boots in Germany. MEINDL employ over 200 people at our factory in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria making quality footwear. We continue a centuries old tradition of making handmade footwear and have been a shoemaker for more than 300 years in Kirchanschöring. The method of production has changed over the years and now people man the machines that carry out one of over 200 work stages that are required to make a high-quality trekking boot. Naturally, we also employ master shoemakers, who in the truest sense of the world »take a hand in things«. They also have the feel and experience required to work with our main material., leather and the product quality that we require. We have not lost the skills of hand making boots at the expense of the need for mass production. With product innovation, manufacturing flexibility and a good understanding of the market requirements we make quality footwear. This is how we wish to succeed in a globally competitive market.

We produce over one million pairs of footwear and deliver them to the most important outdoor markets in the world. In the Alps, in the deserts of Africa and Asia, in the South American jungle or in the Australian outback – alpinists, adventurers and people who travel a great deal on foot swear by Meindl boots and shoes. On mountains, when Nordic walking or hiking, irrespective of where you are in the world, Meindl can provide you with reliable footwear for your feet.

Our high-quality products require the specialist trade as a partner. For this reason we have further extended our sales support to the specialist trade and our supply service with the building of a new logistics centre here in Germany. The numerous national and international awards that we have won confirm the level of quality and innovation. We are pleased to be successful and are supported by a committed workforce and excellent relationship within the footwear trade.

Please note that warranties on hiking boots such as Meindl and Hanwag cover only the intended purpose for which the boot was made, hiking, backpacking, hunting etc. If the boots are used for work purposes especially fire fighting, tree planting or where the boot is subjected to oil or solvents the manufacturer's warranty does not apply and any repairs are the responsibility of the customer.

Footwear is subject to a lot of wear and tear, after all, you walk in your boots all day long, they get banged and scraped and twisted and it is important you buy the correct type of boot for your activity. If you hunt or hike in the rocks at high elevations and are often off-trail then you need a boot for this purpose and while a lighter hiking boot may feel more comfortable, it will not take this type of abuse. For fire fighting we recommend a double or triple stitched full leather boot which is not constructed with a sole that is glued on and a rubber rand as this is where the boot will fail. A traditionally made stitched boot will be heavier and take longer to break in and it is still not specifically made for fighting forest fires, but it will stand up a lot better to heat and heavy use.
